Leyva finishes fifth at Stuttgart’s World Cup

2012 Olympic all-around bronze-medalist Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton HHonors (Universal Gymnastics), finished fifth in the men’s all-around at the World Cup in Stuttgart, Germany, Dec. 2. Earlier at the event, Elizabeth Price of Coopersburg, Pa./Parkettes National Gymnastics Center, won the women’s all-around title, and both Leyva and Price will compete in the World Cup event in Glasgow, Scotland, Dec. 8.
Germany’s Marcel Nguyen won the title with his 90.232, followed by Great Britain’s Daniel Purvis at 89.397 and Russia’s David Belyavskiy at 89.298. Leyva posted a total of 88.364, finishing behind Japan’s Kazuhito Tanaka. Spain’s Fabian Gonzalez and Britain’s Kristian Thomas were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Leyva posted the competition’s highest horizontal bar score at 15.766. His other event scores were: floor exercise, 14.033, pommel horse, 13.666; still rings, 14.300; vault, 15.466; and parallel bars, 15.133.
In Glasgow, both men’s and women’s all-around are scheduled for Dec. 8 at the National Indoor Sports Arena. Both of these events are part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around World Cup series, which also includes the AT&T American Cup.
